HWP compatibility depends on the exact document generation
HWP is a family of Hangul Word Processor formats rather than one simple interchange specification. Older binary files, newer variants, embedded controls, encryption and application-specific objects can behave differently outside Hancom Office. PDFBEAR attempts conversion with the installed document engine and reports an unsupported source instead of returning a blank PDF when that engine cannot open it safely.
If the document is confidential or password protected, decrypt it only when you are authorized and create a separate conversion copy. A password prompt, damaged container or unsupported object cannot be repaired by repeatedly uploading the unchanged file.
Prepare Korean fonts and application-specific objects
Open the HWP file in the Hancom application that created it when possible. Check that Korean fonts are embedded or replace uncommon corporate fonts with distributable alternatives. Inspect equations, vertical text, tables, headers, footnotes, form controls and shapes—these are more likely than plain paragraphs to depend on HWP-specific rendering.
Accept tracked changes and resolve comments only if the PDF is meant to be final. Save a clean HWP copy so the editable original and the issued PDF remain distinguishable.
Compare the converted pages with the HWP source
Do not approve the result from the first page alone. Review a dense table, a page with Korean and Latin characters, the last page, and any section with different headers or orientation. Confirm page count, line breaks, numbering, symbols and signature positions.
The PDF makes the document easier to open, but it does not prove that every proprietary feature was reproduced. Keep the HWP master and record which application version was used for the final visual comparison.
Use an export fallback when direct conversion is unsupported
When PDFBEAR cannot open the variant, use Hancom Office's own PDF export for the highest fidelity. If PDF export is unavailable, save a DOCX copy, inspect it carefully in the authoring application and then use Word to PDF. Avoid chains of multiple format conversions because each step can change tables, fonts and pagination.
After a successful visual review, Compress PDF can reduce image-heavy HWP output. Preserve the uncompressed approved version when it is an official record.
