Why this workflow works

Genuine Impress output

The file contains an OpenDocument presentation body rather than an ODG drawing with the wrong extension.

One presentation intent

The page targets slide-deck output only, avoiding overlap with ODT text documents and ODS spreadsheets.

Useful presentation starting point

Continue in Impress to add speaker notes, rearrange slides and rebuild elements that need deeper editing.

Convert PDF pages into an ODP presentation

Use ODP when PDF pages need to become an Impress deck rather than a text document or spreadsheet.

ODP is the presentation member of OpenDocument

Choose ODP when the destination is LibreOffice Impress or OpenOffice Impress. It is appropriate for reports that need to be presented, exported slide handouts and PDFs whose pages should become a new deck. Use PDF to ODT for text editing and PDF to ODS for table analysis.

What can become editable

A PDF is a fixed page description, so it does not contain the original master slides, transitions, animations or speaker notes. Digital text and visible page content may be reconstructed, while some pages may remain image-led to preserve appearance. Scanned pages require OCR before their words can become editable objects, and that OCR processing is Premium.

Why an intermediate presentation matters

Direct PDF to ODP conversion in LibreOffice can silently produce an OpenDocument Drawing package with an ODP filename. PDFBEAR instead creates a presentation intermediate and then uses the Impress ODP filter. This makes the package type match what the page promises and what presentation software expects.

Review the deck in Impress

Check aspect ratio, text wrapping, image crops and page order after download. Add new notes, transitions and animation in Impress because they cannot be recovered from a fixed PDF. The PDF to OpenDocument guide explains the family, and ODP to PDF creates a fixed sharing copy after your edits are complete.

Common problems and fixes

Text is not separately editable

Why it happens: The page may be image-led or scanned.

Fix: Use a Premium OCR workflow for scans, then rebuild important slide elements in Impress.

The aspect ratio changed

Why it happens: PDF page dimensions do not match a standard slide ratio.

Fix: Set the intended page format in Impress and reposition edge content.

Animations are missing

Why it happens: PDF stores only the visible fixed page state.

Fix: Add transitions and animations again in the ODP after conversion.
