Why convert a PDF to Markdown
Markdown is a lightweight text format that works well in documentation sites, note applications, Git repositories and AI knowledge bases. A PDF is designed to preserve page appearance, while Markdown is designed to preserve readable structure. Converting between them gives you text that is easier to search, revise and reuse.
Use PDF to Text when you only need plain text. Choose PDF to Markdown when headings and lists matter, and run OCR PDF first when the source is a scan.
What the converter preserves
The converter examines text blocks, font size and emphasis. Clear display text becomes a Markdown heading, bullet markers become lists and ordinary lines remain paragraphs. PDF files do not always contain a true semantic outline, so unusual layouts, multi-column designs and complex tables should be reviewed after conversion.
A practical AI workflow
Markdown is often easier than a page-layout PDF for retrieval and analysis. Convert the document, check names and numbers against the source, then use Chat with PDF or Summarize PDF when you need document-grounded answers rather than a new editable file.
Your files stay private
Files travel over secure HTTPS and are processed automatically with no human review. Keep the original PDF until you have confirmed that the Markdown contains every section you need.
