Questions

What should a receipt include?

At minimum the date, who paid, who was paid, what for and how much. This one also has the payment method, a transaction number and any balance due. If you are registered for VAT or sales tax, check what your tax office expects on receipts and add details such as your tax number in the Notes box.

Can I use it as a rent receipt?

Yes. Put the address and the period in "Payment for", for example "Rent, 1 to 30 April, 12 Oak Street, Apt 3", and the tenant in "Received from".

Why is payment method a drop-down?

So it is quick to fill and always spelled the same way. In most PDF viewers it appears as a small menu; if yours shows it as a plain box, choose "Other" and explain in the Notes.
